Major Ramon J. Mendoza Jr. USMC was killed in action while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on November 14, 2005.  At the time of his death, Ray was the Commanding Officer of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment.  He left behind a legacy of selfless service, courage, physical toughness and love for his fellow Marines and Sailors.  He also left a loving wife and two young children.

In the spirit of Major Mendoza’s faith and resolve of providing his children a Catholic Education, an Endowment Fund has been established at St. Mary, Star of the Sea School www.stmarystars.org in Oceanside, California in his name.  The purpose of the fund is to provide support for tuition and associated costs for the Mendoza family as well as other military families in need.
